NSW records 10 more Omicron COVID-19 cases



A further 10 cases of the Omicron strain of COVID-19 have been detected in NSW, nine of which are locally-acquired and one from overseas.The nine new local cases are connected to a cluster which started at a climbing gym in Villawood, in Sydney’s south-west, and has affected two schools.NSW has now recorded 25 cases of the Omicron COVID variant — 14 local, and 11 from overseas or on international flights.NSW Health said to date, none of these cases have been admitted to hospital for treatment.LIVE UPDATES: Read our blog for the latest news on the COVID-19 pandemicA student from St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School in Regents Park was a confirmed case of Omicron, after going to the indoor gym on November 27.All year three and year four students and teachers at the school have been deemed close contacts and asked to self-isolate.A confirmed case in the ACT has also been linked to the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym at Villawood.Anyone who was at the climbing gym on Saturday, November 27, between 9am and 4.30pm is considered a close contact and must get tested and isolate for seven days. Several cases confirmed as the Omicron variant travelled back to NSW on flights from overseas destinations in late November.Anyone who has been in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi 14 days before arriving in NSW must go into hotel quarantine for 14 days, irrespective of their vaccination.Those who have visited any of the eight African countries within the previous 14 days must get tested and isolate for 14 days, and call NSW Health.The state also recorded 208 new cases and zero deaths in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.There are now 152 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 24 of whom are in intensive care.More to come.Space to play or pause, M to mute, left and right arrows to seek, up and down arrows for volume.WatchDuration: 2 minutes 35 seconds2m 35s Why we hear about some COVID-19 variants more than othersWhat you need to know about coronavirus:Loading form…
